In the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), we affirm that children are not merely the future of the church—they are the church today. Rooted in Jesus’ own welcome of children (Matthew 19:14), we celebrate the full participation of children and youth in the life of faith. Scripture reminds us that God calls and equips people of all ages: from the call of young Samuel (1 Samuel 3) to Jesus lifting up a child as the model for discipleship.
The ELCA teaches that through baptism, children are claimed as beloved members of Christ’s body, entrusted to families and faith communities for nurture, formation, and joy (see ELCA Social Statement: “A Message to Families”, 1993; The Use of the Means of Grace, 1997).
Our congregation embraces this call, offering spaces for young people to explore faith, serve others, worship, ask questions, and grow in community.
Here, children aren’t just included—they’re cherished, heard, and encouraged to lead.
At Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, we have a number of ways to get involved! Whether you've got toddlers or teens, there's a place for you and your family here. From Children's Sermons and Children's Church in Worship, affirming faith through Confirmation, to fellowship activities like Shrove Tuesday Dinner, decorating the church for Christmas Eve with luminaries, or hunting for Easter Eggs--your child's faith formation at Mount Calvary is grounded in
Scripture and God's love for all!
